For one of our dates this month, we decided to check out a local art installation. Downtown Vegas has been going through a rebirth through the Downtown Project, and part of their focus is to bring in the arts. We initially had a different date night planned, but while we were out, we saw “Life Cube Burn” in one of the local magazines and had to check it out!
The Life Cube Project was a temporary art installation in downtown Vegas that brought a piece of Burning Man to the city. It was a collaborative effort that allowed people from the art community to not only contribute their art but also write down wishes and dreams. It all culminated with a crowd of over 1000 people burning down the huge 24ft x 24ft wooden art sculpture, sending all of their goals and dreams skyward. (Don’t worry, the fireman were there to start and put out the fire!)
Before the day of the burn, we made a midnight run to the cube to take photos and contribute our own wishes.
I’ve never seen a fire tornado before!
All photos above were taken with a Canon 5D Mark III and 35mm/1.4 L lens.
Even if you aren’t into this kind of art, it was a fun outdoor event with live music. You can see it for yourselves at Burning Man this year. Or if you happen to check out another temporary art installation in your own hometown, let me know in the comments below. Would love to check it out! We’re always trying to come up with new, fun, and unique date ideas.
Would you do something like this as a date? What about Burning Man?
