We’ve always talked about doing archery classes together, and now that we’re doing Alphabet dates this year, we figured this would be the perfect time to try it out!
We decided to check out Impact Archery Las Vegas. The hourly lessons include everything you need. They have an indoor range, which is great since the weather can get rather warm in the summer. If you’ve ever been to Vegas in the summer, you know what I’m talking about.
When we arrived there were a few folks getting their bows serviced in the shop and a few people shooting in the range. We met our instructor, and he set us up with our own bows and a closer target (10 yards).
We started off by going over the safety rules, how to be courteous to other archers on the range, and the basics of shooting a bow. We then got a chance to each get some one-on-one instruction on our form and the mechanics of archery. It took a few shots to get the general movements right.
When he felt that we knew what we were doing, he let us go at our own pace and practice on the targets. It was a lot harder and required a lot more strength than I had expected There’s a lot of adjusting you have to do, and that’s not even having to worry about wind when you’re outside.
After shooting for another half hour, Jacob decided to go for the long targets (20 yards), but he was back on our shorter ones soon enough.
Jacob kept insisting to take photos with his hood on saying he was the Arrow. I don’t watch the show, so I have no words for him.
It was a lot of fun and we hope to do it more often. You never know when you might have to shoot a bow and arrow! They also run other events like Archery Tag and an Indoor League.
