The Painted Hills John Day Fossil Beds National Monument { Photo Diary }

Visiting the Painted Hills? Check out our photo diary to help you plan your trip!

Writing has never been my forte. I always have too many thoughts rolling around in my head and haven’t figured out a good method to organize them or get them out. I mainly like taking photos and sharing them, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to grow in my writing.. it’s just a slow process. I wanted to, however, create a space for me to share photos pressure free and I hope that’s okay! :)

Here’s our photo diary of the Painted Hills. If you want to see more info on the park, check out our Ultimate Guide to the Painted Hills and All the Best Stops for Your Eastern Oregon Road Trip. We’ve detailed everything you need to know to plan your trip.

    I grew up in the area. It’s worth a second trip when it’s raining. The colors become more vibrant than they already are.

      Thanks for the tip, Bonnie! Hopefully, we can time it right. Would you say the weather in the area is pretty predictable or unpredictable?

  2. I love your photos!! I think the photo diary is a great way to tell different stories than the ones you tell in words. Sometimes, when travel bloggers post beautiful pictures of a place, I find myself scrolling past the words just to look at the pictures – so you’re feeding my tendency here! I do an occasional “snapshots” photo diary like this every once in a while, where I just want the pictures to tell the story.

      Aww thank you Kristin. That’s good to know. It’s so much less pressure doing the photo diaries.

  3. Gorgeous photos! I’d never heard of The Painted Hills before but they look astonishing! Thanks for the wanderlust!

    I hope you have a great Sunday,
    Michael

      Thanks so much, Michael. I do hope you get to see them in person one day. We’ve really enjoyed Eastern Oregon.

  4. I’ve just started seeing this place pop up on my pinterest feed! It looks os beautiful and reminds me of the rainbow mountains in South America. Gorgeous pictures!

      Oh yes haha it’s all over pinterest! It does look very similar. I was sad that I missed out on going to the rainbow mountains when I was in Peru, but there’s always next time.
