Easy Chocolate Dump Cake Recipe | Foodie Fridays

One of my resolutions for the year was to cook one new recipe every month for the entire year, and my recipe for the month of February was the Easy Chocolate Dump Cake.  Last week happened to be Brandon’s first birthday.  Being a good “auntie”, I decided we should take an easy chocolate cake recipe and complicate it by making it into a shape of a train since his birthday theme was trains.  This is the result:

Not bad for the first time…  but let’s just say frosting a cake is a b****!!! Anyone else think so?  So much harder than I had ever imagined. Anyhow, here’s the recipe. If you follow it and make it in a bundt pan, I imagine it really is as easy as the recipe says.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of yellow cake mix
  • 5.9 oz package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 4 eggs beaten
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)
  2. Grease and flour a bundt pan
  3. In a bowl, mix the yellow cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, vegetable oil, sugar, and water
  4. Gently fold in the sour cream and chocolate chips
  5. Pour batter into prepared bundt pan
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 55 minutes
  7. Check cake if cooked through with a chopstick or long toothpick. If not, leave in 10 minutes longer
  8. Cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to cooling racks
