Singapore Gardens By the Bay

When it comes to the most popular tourist spots in Singapore, Gardens by the Bay always makes that list. The unique structures and beautiful greenery make this the perfect place to escape from the city without actually having to leave. During our visit, we spent most of our time in the two conservatories. Since they are self-contained domes, it’s a great way to get out of the humidity. Singaporeans are all about getting out of the heat and humidity.

Cloud Forest shows plant life from tropical highlands. The centerpiece is a 35-metre-tall mountain with the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. Through a series of walkways, you get to see everything from different vantage points.

Afterwards, we headed over to the Flower Dome. This cool-dry climate replicates the Mediterranean regions, South Africa, California, and parts of Spain and Italy. You will find beautiful flowers and trees, and a lot of it is redecorated during holidays and special events.

Before leaving the gardens, we had to check out the Supertree Grove and OCBC Skyway. Sitting at 22 meters above ground, you get to climb up and walk along the aerial walkway to get great views of the city and see the supertrees up close. We hear that the trees are lit up beautifully at night, but we didn’t have the time to stay (we were too busy getting our hands dirty eating Chili Crabs! :D).

The great thing about the gardens is that there are so many different areas to explore. You can purchase entry tickets to certain portions based on how much time you have, and a lot of the outdoor areas are even free to walk around. See all the hours and admission costs here.

Tips for visiting the Singapore Gardens By the Bay

  • Bring a light jacket, since the conservatories can get chilly.
  • Visiting during the day and at night will give you two unique experiences.
  • We shot all of our photos with a 35mm lens on a full-frame camera, but it would have helped to have an even wider lens or GoPro with us at some spots.
  • If you’re walking around outside, bring plenty of water. It gets hot and humid!
  • We were with Jacob’s grandma, and it was nice that everything was wheelchair accessible.
