We have so many animal posts lined up for you! Can you tell we love animals?
Years ago we visited Bali and enjoyed our stay at the nicest resort we’ve ever been to that we hardly ventured out. One of the few places we did visit was the Bali Safari and Marine Park. It was such a unique experience, and we had the chance to get up close and personal with different animals.
One thing we didn’t get a chance to do is dine with the lions. They have a a restaurant called the Tsavo Lion Restaurant that sits right next to the lion exhibit.

During your visit, you can walk around on your own, or take advantage of their unique safaris, including an elephant back safari, 4×4 safari, and even a night safari. Unlike any zoo in the US, they also have a section that is an amusement and water park. Also if you’re into local culture, they do shows every day presenting the Balinese dance (you can have a go at learning the moves too).
There was also a place where you can take photos with a white tiger cub (Jacob had done this as a kid), but his work shift was over by the time we made it to the park.
Since visiting, we have visited a lot more zoos and conservation centers, and have met a lot of people doing the work. Looking back on it, it’s hard to remember the details on how the animals were being treated and if their environments were healthy, but it is something we look for now.
One thing we did notice was an elephant doing a dance, which we thought at the time was a happy dance. We later learned that it was instead exhibiting neurotic behavior. Many elephants in zoos may show this behavior if they don’t have enough space to roam.
If you do visit, please report back to us! We learned that generally if a zoo is AZA accredited, it’s a good sign. However, not all international zoos will get accredited with AZA, since it is an American organization.
