The Ledge Bungy Queenstown New Zealand

The next morning we headed over to Shotover Jet at Shotover Canyon where we had our first experience riding jet boats! This is an exhilarating ride where they fly through the canyon, spin the boat 360 degrees, and come within inches of the canyon wall. This got our blood pumping and we were excited about the rest of the day, which we had scheduled as our extreme sports day!

A blurry screen capture from the video they took of us:

For lunch, we stopped at the famous Fergburger. The place is always packed and the burgers are huge. I ordered the Tropical Swine, and Jacob ordered the original Fergburger.  They were good burgers, but we thought they were overhyped after everyone and their moms were telling us it was best burger ever.

We found out our skydive was cancelled for the day, so we took our second gondola ride and went up to the Skyline Luge, go karts that use gravity instead of an engine.  You can see video footage of Jacob and his brother on the luge here (if it doesn’t immediately go to that part, fast forward to 4 mins and 43 seconds). I couldn’t quite luge and take photos with my big camera at the same time, so here are before pics.

Afterwards, we decided we needed to do some sort of extreme activity on our “extreme sports day,” and it was going to be the Ledge Bungy!  This jump overlooked Queenstown. It was a 47 meter jump but looked a lot higher since you were 400 meters above the city.

Walking the plank… Longest walk of my life!

I have never been so afraid…

Then it was over before I even knew it!  Really wasn’t as bad as I thought!

We headed back into town to eat my New Zealand McDonald’s happy meal and continue my weird tradition of eating one from every country.  After dinner, we grabbed some beer and hung out at our hotel!

Timeline of Our Day:

  • 9:00-10:30 AM Shotover Jet. A 30 minute jet boat ride (included in tour price)
  • 11:00-11:45 AM Fergberger. Ate Tropical Swine (13.90 NZD) and the Fergburger (11 NZD)
  • 1:00-2:00 PM Luge (NZ $19 for 2 rides for one person)
  • 3:30-4:00 PM Ledge Bungy jump from bob’s peak at the skyline restaurant (180 NZD)
  • 5:00-5:30 PM McDonalds to get my New Zealand Happy Meal (5.40 NZD)

Tips:

  • Out of all the bungy jump options, the Ledge Bungy had the best photo opps with Queenstown as the backdrop.
  • If you aren’t chicken, the bungy with the most thrill is Nevis. Perhaps next on our list!
  • If you are set on skydiving, don’t fill up your schedule in case you need to reschedule. The weather changes so much from windy to cloudy that our jumps were cancelled after being rescheduled twice. This was the one activity we definitely wanted to do in New Zealand, so we’ll have to go back sometime.
  • Get two rides on the luge. The first ride always has to be the scenic route which gets you comfortable with the kart. After that, you can proceed to the advanced track with big drops and tight turns – lots more fun!
