Check out the wildlife at Akaka Falls State Park! We didn’t see much real wildlife, but we did see a lot of exotic plants we don’t usually get in our hood. The hike is not that bad either.

This state park is situated along the Hamakua Coast just 11 miles north of Hilo.

On the Akaka Falls Loop Trail, you see both Akaka Falls (442 ft tall), the highlight of the park, and Kahuna Falls (400 ft). Akaka in Hawaiian means “a split, crack, or separation”.

How much time is recommended for Akaka Falls State Park?

1-2 hours is sufficient for your visit. Even if you want to take your time, the hike is really short.

How long does it take to hike Akaka Falls?

It takes roughly 30 minutes to get to Akaka Falls. The Akaka Falls Loop Trail is a 0.4-mile loop and an easy family-friendly hike.
