+ The Type-C (Europe) plug is sufficient and it works.
/ The adapter is cheap. It feels and looks cheap. But you know what? It's also priced very cheap. Bang for buck the product is very good.
/ The prongs are slightly smaller than other plugs. Extending it ~2mm would cost very little in production and significantly improve the performance of the product. However, the prongs are sufficient enough for the product to function.
- The only con is that the prongs lack the protective seal that some other plugs have. However, for an 80 cent plug, this is not an issue.
Also, a semi-note because I've read some other reviews: this is an adapter. There are no electronic components in it. It is metal and plastic. Other countries also have different voltages in the wall. While North America has 120V, Europe has 240V. Don't blame the adapter because your electronics were fried. That's your fault for not checking the Power Supply/Converter ratings before you plugged it in.
So buy these if you are going to a country that uses these. It's a great deal for your money. Also , maybe get two boxes of these because somehow your wife will manage to steal them all and then you can't charge your watch... just saying...not speaking from personal experience of anything...
It worked for me in France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, and Italy, to various degrees of success.
Now there are apparently two thicknesses across Europe with the prongs. This adapter uses the thinner type for obvious reasons, so it can fit the larger prone outlets as well as the thinner ones, which isn't possible vice versa. Now with the larger prong outlets it would appear a bit loose, but it held just fine for me. I don't plug in huge adapters on there but rather a small phone adapter and regular wires which probably helps with stability. Also the smaller heads also worked where the plugs appear to be the round-recessed type, which wouldn't have been possible if it were designed any larger.
Given the weight and superb adaptability, I forgive the occasional looseness which in all honestly had never really been a nuisance. It's small enough and cheap enough that having a few in the bag is more than reassuring. It was certainly worth the money for me, except now that I feel like I've got too many of them.
In the US our plugs have small holes at the ends of the pins that the contacts can "grip" by being indented inward where the hole is. This forces the plug to stay inside unless the plug is pulled hard enough to actually flex the contact inside the outlet a tiny bit - far more force than metal-on-metal friction.
These plug adapters are fine on the female (American) side, but on the male side all you get is metal-on-metal friction, which means any little bump or tug and your device is going to lose power. The two mechanisms I've seen (which this lacks) are 1. a larger plug that fits into a large cavity around the outlet holes and "snaps" in by some means. This looks like it was added later to deal with the loose-plug problem, and is clearly visible on the outside the outlet. 2. Just the tips of the prongs are metal and the rest is sheathed in soft plastic, giving the outlet a better ability to "grip" the prongs.
Both of these methods do a LOT to improve the grip of the plug in the European outlet. Having neither of these, with this product I had to be very careful not to tug on power cords at all. In cases where tugging on the cord would be extremely bad, I trapped the adapter in the outlet using adhesive tape, then punched through the tape with my American plug. It got the job done, but added some extra inconvenience every time I changed hotels.
In conclusion, these weren't outright defective in any way, they were cheap, and they got the job done... However, I would not buy them again or recommend them to anyone else. If you are wealthy enough to be travelling to a place with different outlets, then you can afford a higher-quality adapter.
