Cherry Blossoms in Japan

Spring is in the air! I haven’t seen any blossoms in Vegas. I’m not even sure if there are any or where to begin looking for them, but it made me miss the pretty dogwood trees in Georgia and the cherry blossoms in Japan. Don’t mind me. I’m just wanderlusting, so I’m interrupting my Galapagos posts to share some cherry blossom photos I took from our Kyoto trip.

I don’t know why cherry blossoms are so fascinating to me. Maybe it’s because they are so temporary and can only be enjoyed for a moment. When we went to Japan to see the cherry blossoms, it actually snowed and cut the season short. They said this never happens. Luckily, we were able to capture some of its fleeting beauty the few days before.

The last photo is one I took from Atlanta.

I’ve also been meaning to go to the cherry blossom festival in DC, but Jacob always tells me I don’t have to patience to deal with the crowds and stake out a spot for hours on end to get “the shot.” We’ll see about that!

Have you been to any of these festivals? Where do you like to go to see the spring blossoms?

  1. I’m totally loving the cherry blossoms right now. I wish it would never end! This is my first time seeing them and I can see why people love them so much.

And these photos are beautiful! It must have been soooo nice to see them in Kyoto.

Beautiful pictures! We were lucky enough to catch the cherry blossoms in Tokyo in 2009. Definitely should be on everyone’s bucket list! Beautiful scenery, friendly people, great food … man we need to go back.

Thanks @Jin! :) Yeah, it is really beautiful.. I want to go back too! I actually saw recently on a top 10 cherry blossom festival list that Macon GA was on there. Have you seen that one?

Oh man. Your blog is making me miss Japan! I remember going to one of the palaces there and taking some pretty pictures with the cherry blossoms. I want to go to Japan now! I went to the cherry blossom festival in DC once. It was nice but so much work to get there. We were stuck in traffic forever and theres so many people so yea … I think Jacob is right about you not having the patience to deal with all that … haha … if you do go, you should just take the subway into the city instead of driving (our mistake).

I wanna go back too! I feel like I didn’t get the full experience because it rained and snowed and all the cherry blossoms fell off really quickly. Let’s go back!! :) I will have to keep that in mind. I don’t mind traveling by subway. Yeah, that’s what Jacob said… that I would be more annoyed than anything.. and it’d be hard to take photos bc there would be soo many people. In Kyoto, at least there are different places and everything is spread out.

Oooo maybe if we go to korea next year we can also drop by japan again?! :) yea when i went in japan, there wasn’t as many people and yea you’re right, it’s more spread out there so no crowding around one cherry blossom tree to take a picture :p

These pictures are so amazingly beautiful! I posted about cherry blossoms today as well! We get a small taste of them in DC every spring, and you’re right, part of their beauty is that they’re only around for a little bit of time.

Thank you @carlyblogshere:disqus. I really hope to see them in DC one day!
