We stayed in Vik for 3 days. Totally loved it.
We stayed in Vik for 3 days. Totally loved it. It is quite a small town, but has a big supermarket (kronan), a really great quality hiking clothes/supplies store, plus a number of cafes and places to eat. We recommend Sudur Vik Restaurant especially.
We did the Katla Track ice cave tour which was amazing and left from Vik!! Also recommend Icelandic Mountain Guides Snowmobile tour - meeting point 25 mins drive from Vik. Black Sand beach is great, as is local open air pool.
We stayed in the Vik hotel which is fabulous, but as we were there for three days, I would have preferred an apartment. The hotel also operates the Vik Apartments (which I hadn't realised before I booked) - they look really good.

We based our family of 5 in Vik to explore the southern coast over 3 nights with our rental car. We found it easier to have one base rather than a different hotel each night.
We visited the Skogafoss Waterfall, Black Sand Beach, YODA caves, gorge hike, Glacier walk at Skaftafell and then onto the Glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach.
We didn’t eat out as it was expensive for what appeared average food so we went to the local supermarket and cooked back at our self catered apartment.
Vik offers lots of adventure based companies who organise tour and expeditions.

Nice small town,so windy, big waves at black sand beach, It is a nice experience. We came from Golden Circle first day, second day we went to Jokusarlon gracier lagoon and back. third day we were back to reykjavir. If just doing ring road, one night should be enough. accommodation is expersive in Vik.

Enjoyed the Black Sand Beach and the amazing rock formations not far from Vik. There was also a good cafe there.
Dyhroley lighthouse was good for the views of the coast could walk as long of as short as you liked.
Went for a wonderful meal at Surdur-Vik restaurant, which I booked in the morning as it is popular.
The location is nice and interesting, next to the ring road but still seemingly very remote with few other houses/farms in the vicinity (luckily Vík is not that far away by car for groceries). The accommodation is quite large, which a good kitchen (although kitchen utensils could be better) and multiple shared bathrooms for the available rooms. Our room was also quite large and had its own sink, which was a nice addition. The owner also had some local Icelandic woolen sweaters for sale, which were nice.
Hotel Kria was exactly what we wanted. Ample parking, good sized room, very clean and comfortable. Good size bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. Restaurant was excellent and the food amazing. The included breakfast was great and probably the best we'd had in Iceland. Location was perfect for those making a pitstop in Vik. close to everything. Would definitely recommend and would stay again if heading to Vik. Staff were very friendly and approachable.
Super nice hotel close enough to Vik to get to the village in less than 10 min by car, but not too close, so it was really dark at night and perfect for looking for auroras. Nice and clean, perfect room for a couple of days stay.
We could hear the people from the rooms next to us when they were on the hallway but not inside the room, so it was quiet during night.
We are going to stay again for sure when coming back to Iceland!
This was my 5th visit to Iceland and for guesthouse stays this was my favourite!
As soon as you walk in you feel at home and you’re greeted with a big smile 😊
My room was so comfortable with amazing views over Vik.
The breakfast was fantastic and again with amazing views.
I even lay in bed and watched the Northern lights from my bedroom window 🥹
100% will stay here every time I visit Vik.
Super stylish property just outside Vik on the main South coast road, near the black sand beach/needles. Great value for money as long as you don't mind sharing (in fact we got our own room as the hotel was so quiet). Kitchen facilities are excellent (self-catering in Iceland saves you a LOT of money). Plenty of hot water and very clean. Very highly recommended.
Convenient location in Vík for a ring road tour. The family room was quite nice: upper loft with two twin beds for kids, with parents on the lower level—one of the few family rooms I’ve stayed in while in Iceland where kids were in a separate area, which was nice. Ample breakfast buffet with tons of options, great shower products and nice linens.
Beds were amazing, supportive and comfortable. These beds do not sink in the middle, like happens in the US. The apartment included a washer/dryer 2-in-1 machine which was very handy after rainy hiking in Iceland. The location is perfect, across the street from supermarket, care, fuel, and the beautiful black sand beach area. Perfect!
The location is incredible with amazing views over Dyrholaey. Very close to Vik and Reynisfjara, two of our favourite locations in Iceland. The room was very spacious and it only needs a renovation to make it more modern but other than that, we were very pleased. I really enjoyed the breakfast, especially the cake slices.
My dad and I stayed at Puffin Hostel Vík for one night on our two-week trip to Iceland. The room and communal areas (shared kitchen and bathroom) were very clean and tidy. The location was very convenient - it is about a 10-minute walk to the black sand beach in Vík where you can see nesting puffins. :)
What can I say more. We always come back to Iceland and we always come back to Hvammból that is keeping its high quality. Decent size rooms with well equipped kitchen and nice bathroom. The location is just perfect. Outside Vik but close enough. Very close to Rejnisfjara and even closer to Dyrholaey.
We liked the hotel a lot. It had good quality rooms and excellent food. The variety of breakfast food was great - biggest choice we had in Iceland so far. The restaurant is also amazing. Would be great if they added some facilities like maybe sauna or hot tub, but cannot complain at anything. Thanks!
You can feel when someone take care of the place. Everything was spotless and the house is really beautiful. Price is excellent for Iceland, and you have everything you need, to cook or whatever. Totally recommended, if I ever go back to Vik i cannot imaging better place than this.
Hotel is in the town of Vik, the black beach, shops and some restaurants are in walking distance, it is an advantage when yuo are heading east from Reikjavik. Very friendly and helpful staff, giving the advices about Iceland.
Amazing accommodation, very clean, comfortable and Beautiful. The location is convenient to move around the main attractions of south Iceland, and close to the city of Vik (which has great restaurant options).
This was our favorite hotel of our entire trip to Iceland. The jacuzzi was great, the location was quiet, the rooms are beautiful, staff is friendly, and we enjoyed our dinner immensely.
