The Varsity | Tourists at Home Atlanta Edition

The Varsity was Established in 1928 and has been a popular landmark of Atlanta for years. Jacob has been many times, but this was my first visit even though I’ve been in Atlanta for over 10 years. While we were being tourists in our hometown with our Atlanta CityPASS, we decided to finally stop in. Why not? It was conveniently close to everything else we were seeing. I just never had the desire but ultimately decided I should have the Varsity experience before we leave for LA.

When we walked in, we were greeted at the counter with their famous “what’ll ya have?”  We wanted the full experience, so we ordered a couple of chili dogs, slaw dog, fries, onion rings, and an orange frosty.  We were ready to up our cholesterol levels.

After finally having Varsity, I can’t decide whether it was worth it.  On one hand, it’s a famous landmark of Atlanta. And on the other, the onion rings were delicious and battered just the way I like it, but the food overall was not that great.

I guess I will leave it up to you to decide whether it’s worth the visit. If you do decide to go, tell us about your experience!

TIPS:

  • try the orange frosty! it tastes like a flintstone’s push-up
  • ask for a varsity hat
  • the onion rings are delicious!

Have you been to the Varsity? Would you try it since it’s an icon of Atlanta?
