Snail Mail Collective and Gratitude Week 8

Have you guys ever read Gary Chapman’s The Five Love Languages? I can’t say I’ve read it thoroughly, but I’ve definitely skimmed through it, and I think I get the gist of it.

What are the 5 love languages?

  1. Words of Affirmation
  2. Acts of Service
  3. Receiving Gifts
  4. Quality Time
  5. Physical Touch

I tend to show my love through gifts and words of affirmation. I would say I receive and understand love most through words of affirmation. And occasionally gifts if they happen to be really thoughtful. haha

If someone writes me a nice note, I cherish that more than anything. More than diamonds. ;) I think that’s why I love snail mail so much. There’s something more tangible about receiving a surprise in the mail than an email or text, which has become the norm for us now. Plus, something a little sweet never hurts. This month I am so grateful to have received two snail mail packages. One from Mia through the Snail Mail Collective (if you love snail mail, sign up!):

And one from Sophia:

I really, really am grateful for them taking the time to write me a sweet note and to collect a few things to send me. Sorry I wish I could have written a more longer, thoughtful post about how grateful I am, but it’s 11 PM at night, and I still have so much to cross off my to-do list! Why was I so ambitious at the beginning of the month?

What is your love language? How do you tend to receive love and / or show your love to others? Have you ever thought that the way you show love might not be the way the other person receives love?

Every Wednesday, I’ve been blogging about gratitude as part of the GRAD-itude 101 link-up. If you’d like to read my other gratitude posts, click on the banner below.

Yay!! I’m glad you got my package! Also, did you sign up for this month?

Snail mail is soooo awesome! These little packages look lovely! I love it! And we’re on the same page with words of affirmation for sure!!!

Do you participate in snail mail collective? :) we should totally send each other packages!

Aw! This post pulls at my heartstrings. I haven’t written my penpals in quite sometime since the semester had kicked off. I seriously need to connect with them. I agree, handwritten letters makes communication that much more special. Gifts don’t hurt either!

You should! :) I am sure it would make their day getting snail mail. I haven’t done the pen pal thing in a loooong time.. but I decided to give it a try again. I think it’s something we need to bring back!

it’s the dark chocolate kind! :) if you have an asian grocery store near you, they should carry it.

  4. Love this, Esther! I took this quiz as a joke once (my sister gave me a beat up thrift store copy as a white elephant joke) and then realized that it held more truth in it than I originally thought :) I’m definitely a quality time/acts of service person but have been trying to be conscious of how other people like to receive love and who them in that way.

I used to be really stubborn about it and wonder why people just didn’t understand me and couldn’t love me the way I needed to be loved.. but likewise I didn’t understand them either. It’s so funny how similar yet how different each of us are. :) What about Warren? Is he pretty different from how he shows / receives love? Jacob is definitely an acts of service person.

      1. It’s funny, Warren and I are identical in love languages! He is also quality time/acts of service–maybe that’s why we get along so well :)

  5. Tidy-Up Gal

I used to love writing notes to people randomly. I don’t know why I stopped. It just carries so much more weight than an email or text! My love languages are quality time and physical touch.

same here! i used to do that all the time.. but i stopped for the past few years and haven’t given it much thought until recently. :) i feel like a lot of people from atlanta are the hugging type.

I haven’t read the entire thing either but I think it is an awesome concept. Mine is definitely words of affirmation with a little receiving gifts thrown in. I just like knowing people thought of me, even cards make me happy!

Hope you’re doing well, Esther! Let’s talk soon! ♥

haha same as mine! i guess that means we would be great at showing love to each other. :) yes, we should!
